We started the hike at the trailhead on FR 73 on a nice fall day. After a short distance we saw a wonderful thing! A new bridge with a railing! This made me so happy! The old log was a little narrower and there was no railing. It was scary for this old lady. I had to hold onto my hubby's backpack while inching across. Sometimes I sent him hiking solo for fear of crossing that log. Now I can happily walk right across.
Thank you to everyone who made that happen!
It's a pretty and peaceful place to hike. We visit a time or two every year.

What GREAT news! This made us VERY happy, too! The last few times we have hiked this trail we have turned around at the log crossing! It became a little slanted and was often slippery because of wetness or ice! I do not do well with log crossings when there is no hand rail! We add our thanks to those who built the bridge! Can hardly wait to try it out! Were there any fungi? There are usually many fungi along the trail and its side trips, but the dry summer may have slowed them down this year! Thank you for your report! ( Think we met you and your husband on a trail several years ago! Maybe Kelly Butte! I will have to research!)

My search did reveal that we met you and your husband coming down from the Kelly Butte Trail as we were going up on 9-9-11! :)!

We remember meeting both of you on Kelly Butte. We we're almost down and you were heading up.
There was a lot of fungi along the trail but not the good edible kinds.

I was there a few days before the rains came last week, there was a good variety of fungi, though not in any large quantities (except for honey mushrooms, they were extremely abundant).
