We arrived at the trailhead a bit before 9:00 and there was only one other car there. The forest service road to the trailhead is short but the last quarter mile or so of the road is badly potholed. Many of the potholes are better described as craters. Some are so wide there's no way to go around them. We made it through fine in our Outback, but it would be tricky going in cars with less ground clearance.
The trail is in pretty good condition. There was water running down the trail in places but there were no muddy sections. The trail is in forest all the way to the lake with only one minor view on the way but the views are nice at the lake. Heather Lake is a pretty little lake in a small basin nestled up against a ridge of Mount Pilchuck. We hit snow on the trail shortly before getting to the lake. It was only a few inches deep. We hiked the trail that goes around the lake. There was a fresh layer of snow all the way around, but it was no problem staying on the trail.
This is a pretty easy hike. It took us just over an hour to get to the lake.

It was nice chatting with you on the west side of the lake. Truly a glorious day.

Good talking to you too. Nice hike and the fresh snow was great. We made it back to our car just as the rain started so good timing.
