Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area
Trail entry point at the playground
Finally made it out to to Big Gulch. We parked at 92nd Street Park (4800 92nd Street, Mukilteo) and walked along the path to the right of the playground, which goes counterclockwise around the field to the North Fork Trailhead. There are some steep steps down to the main trail, and we headed west until we got to the West Fork Trailhead and had to turn around. (You can see the water peeking through the trees in the distance, but there's no water access from the trail.) Overall the trail is well-maintained and clearly marked, and the bridges are in great shape. This could be hiked in sneakers on a dry day, but waterproof shoes were helpful for us given the recent rain. The best part about this spot is that the creek runs along the trail and is audible as you hike, so the city noise disappears. As others have mentioned, there are a few short spurts where you can smell some sewage, but it isn't unbearable. We clocked 3 miles in 1 hour 30 minutes with a five year old - a very kid-friendly hike in town, with a playground waiting as a reward at the end.
