Saddle Rock — Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023

Central Washington

Hiked the newly built (as of last fall) trail to Saddle Rock. The trail is still very steep but very wide, which hopefully will help with erosion, and there are several benches along the way if you need a rest or to take in the view :) It was great to see so many families and hikers of all ages out on a sunny winter Sunday! To my surprise the trail was almost entirely snow-free, with only a few slushy patches at the top and no ice, but that is changing as we speak (it's snowing in Wenatchee as I write this). Some muddy spots but overall the trail is in great condition for late winter. There are some tempting opportunities to cut the newly graded switchbacks, but if you stick to the wide gravel trail you can help mitigate erosion. The wind on the ridge made it suddenly much colder at the top--bring extra layers if you want to linger!
