Let's get one thing straight first: if you are wanting to avoid a busy hike, do not come here. Since I live one or two hours away from the trailhead and I didn't get a super early start, I arrived at approximately 11:30 am, which wasn't a good time. I met probably several hundred people going down as I was going up, and hiking back down there were still people coming up.
Some parts of the trail cross creeks and are slightly muddy, and there are two or three trees down across the trail in certain places, but they aren't hard to cross. At the traihead there's a sign that warns you of a "landslide" 1.7mi into the trail, but it's really just a fallen tree that tore down part of the trail, but you can get across it. The road there is not bad, but there is one large pothole right before entering the parking lot. The parking lot is pretty full, but you can park across the road at a day-use picnic area if they're out of space. There are bathrooms--no flush toilets, though that's to be expected--at the trailhead, but they are not the cleanest.
Otherwise, Lake 22 is a relatively easy or moderate hike with beautiful scenery. In summer there is a trail to go around the lake, but it is currently covered in snow (not the main trail, just the path around Lake 22). The lake is also mostly covered in snow.
Note: I hiked this trail on Sunday May 28, but the trip report was written on Tuesday May 30.
