Hiked with my 3 year old, my 15 month old (in my backpack) and my dad. It was rough for my dad who has a bad knee. I sent this hike to him to read the reports and let me know what he thought, but he did not fully disclose the state of his knee. My 3 year old did great with some snack bribery, but we got to the trail head later than I was hoping for because of a wreck on I-5 that foiled our early plans to meet up with my dad in North Bend, so it was crowded.
I was shocked at how many people were at the trail on a Wednesday at 8:30am. The hike was very beautiful but it started getting pretty hot and bugs started dive bombing at my face and my baby’s face since she was on my back.
We had to stop and wait every time someone was coming up or down (which was constantly) because we were painfully slow and a group of 3.5 people on a pretty narrow trail, so the hike ended up taking 10,000 years to complete because I believe in trail etiquette. So, in conclusion, if you are slower, have littles, or a dad with a bad knee, I would get to the trailhead really early (before 8am) or choose a less popular hike, like the Oxbow Loop Trail. :)
