The road to get to this trail is pretty rough. Lots of medium size rocks that require slow driving. We probably went 8mph for most of the way. At the very end of this road there are two large divots that require a little skill. If you stay to the far right or left of the road in this area, you should be fine. I went straight on the first time and had wheels off of the ground. Not a big deal, but something to consider if you don't have all wheel drive or 4x4. I drove a Subaru Outback with pretty regular tires and survived.
There are a ton of dispersed campsites along the entire road. There are larger sites at the beginning that were full of large groups. There were fewer and fewer people as we got deeper so if you're planning on camping you should have plenty of space to do so. There is a spot for camping right at the trailhead as well. There is also a pretty nice bathroom but no trashcans so make sure to prepare to pack everything out.
The trail is #980. There is only a small, wooden sign marking the trail when you're at the trailhead. You'll know you're on the right trail if you pass by a small campsite on your left and then cross a bridge over a stream before you start the incline.
The trail essentially goes straight up with no switchbacks. It's a little intense but doesn't last long. The total mileage to the first lake is right at about 2 miles. Honestly the first lake is the best in my opinion. Lots of open space to relax, fish, or camp.
Take the trail to the right along the lake for a while. You'll pass a sandy beach on your left. Keep following the widest trail to get to the eastern lake. The total distance to the lake is about 0.3 miles. We didn't walk along the entire length of the second lake but we didn't see much open area at the beginning.
Overall a pretty great trail. On X maps has a great amount of the trails out here so consider using that to navigate your way through this area. There are a few other lakes in the vicinity that another hiker spotted elk at.
Total stats according to AllTrails was 4.89 miles with 971 feet of elevation gain. Feel free to comment here if you want my AllTrails map. There's currently no tracking available for this hike on there.

We stayed at the sandy beach for about 30 minutes. There were a handful of mosquitos that landed on us. It wasn't too bad but they're definitely out there. A few biting flies and clouds of bugs.
