This was a great hike for an overnight, with a nice trail, fall colors (vine maple), and good views of some of the Snoqualmie peaks. It’s about 6 miles from the Pratt Lake trailhead to the excellent campsites at the north end of the lake, well worth it despite the 800 elevation drop from the saddle which separates the South Fork from the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River. The views of Mt Rainier just before this saddle have become partially obscured over the years by the trees.
As a half mile side trip, I walked over to the Lower Tuscohatchie Lake, which had gorgeous evening views of the peaks from The Tooth to Kaleetan. This trail, like the Pratt Lake trail, was well maintained, also fairly level, though more like a backcountry than mainline trail. I’d already taken a quick dip in Pratt Lake but Tuscohatchie felt warmer, with adequate, though smaller campsites. I was the only camper at Pratt Lake but I’d met several day trippers coming and going. Beautiful fall weather, no bugs.
