Trip Report

Tonga Ridge / Mount Sawyer — Friday, Sep. 22, 2023

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West
Mt. Daniel as seen from Mt. Sawyer

Note that if you use Google Maps to find the trailhead you need to use "Tonga Ridge" as your destination and not "Mount Sawyer", or else you will get sent to the wrong place.  Watch for side trail on left at about 2.1 - 2.2 miles from trailhead that leads to summit of Mt Sawyer. Just before the summit, as trail curves from east side of Mt Sawyer for a final approach for a few feet along the north ridge it becomes a bit indistinct.    This is a miserable year for blueberries. I found a grand total of 2 blueberries - small ones a bit off the trail. No unripe berries seen. I blame the drought.

There were some fall colors when I was there a week ago and there should be more now from my experience early October is a good time for fall colors in the Cascades.
