Cutthroat Pass via the Pacific Crest Trail — Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20
Parking: Arrived at TH at 6:30 a.m. on a Thursday a.m. Lot was about 2/3 full, but got a spot without an issue. Lot was full with cars down the road when I left at 11 a.m.

Vault toilet - shockingly, there was TP in the TH toilet in the morning and when I left!

Hike - this one has been on my list for a few years (usually my kids are with me though). Low-lying fog had me worried about the views for a bit, but I was above it after a couple of miles.

The larch groves start at around 3.5-4 mi and they are peaking! There were a few green leaves at the tips of some trees, but the color is phenomenal.

The pass itself is almost anti-climactic after all those switchbacks lined with larches.

Trail vibes: really friendly hikers throughout the morning. Everyone just seemed so happy to be out hiking on a day with beautiful weather. I probably chatted with 4-5 groups more than the usual "hey."

Mostly groups of 1-4 people, dogs were generally leashed or under great voice command.

10/10 would hike again.
