Cutthroat Pass via the Pacific Crest Trail — Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20
Last of the Larches

Wanted to get out before the snow flies and the pass closes. Larches and fall foliage is about over, but still one of my favorite hikes in the area. Just so beautiful, even though it was an overcast day. Trail in great shape not too wet or muddy. Go now!

Hi, Do you still go hiking? I was on Cutthroat today. Pretty cool, especially going out to Granite Pass. Larch Madness still tolerable on a nice day during week, except probably on Maple Pass. The cars lined along the road on a Monday was crazy. Take care, DCHK.

I talked a pair of trail runners who passed me both inbound and then outbound not far from the lot each time. They did go the whole way to Snowy, but said they regretted it and that they had to just walk up the switchbacks to Granite because of all the extra climb. Snowy is probably better done as an overnighter, and anyway, it seems hard to believe that Snowy could be any better than Granite. I was surprised how few of the Cutthroat people pushed on to Granite, especially since it is so easy.
