Heather - Maple Pass Loop — Thursday, Nov. 23, 2023

Attempted this today knowing it was likely we wouldn’t complete the loop! Parking is along Hwy 20 as the lot isn’t cleared of snow this time of year. Not sure if the restrooms were open either! We went counter clockwise and got within about 0.4 miles of the ridgeline at the pass, where we decided to call it a day. A combo of needing to break trail through some steep terrain with looooong runout, and just ICE cold strong winds, turned us around early. Snowshoes were needed from about 1.5 miles onwards unless you’re a fan of post holes to the knee! It was still a beautiful day and we ended up detouring down to Lake Ann for some extra mileage. Probably the last few days of accessibility before the road closes for the winter in the near future. Also definite areas of avy risk here, so be safe and enjoy!
