Speaking of ways to fill the hours of retirement, joining a trail crew work party is a great way to get outside and do something fulfilling. As always, the people I met today were friendly, helpful, and provided good conversation. It was an absolutely beautiful day and this new trail around the lake is a great addition to the other existing trails. It feels remote and has old growth trees, sword fern filled hillsides, a new staircase down to a waterwheel, and ducks and geese that came and went while we were there. The trail isn't complete yet, but we made solid progress. This is a great place to visit if you have little ones or are looking for a short hike.
