Deception Crags, Songbird Peak & Hall Creek — Saturday, Mar. 9, 2024

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass

The Mount Washington lot was full of cars. I opted for solitude down the road. Walked by the fixed rope hanging off the cliffs on the east side of Change Creek along the P2C, turned around and decided to climb it on a whim. Lots of challenging scrambling ensued.

Mountain goat tracks all over the place. I saw one mountain goat on a ledge right above and heard more of them. Followed their clear trails up for the majority of the hike and walked by a few of their sleeping areas too. Some of the trails were packed down well enough to be noticeably helpful.

Snowshoes on around 2800'. Stubbornly kept them on which made for some extremely awkward scrambling around Easter Island. Popped open a cut on my thumb on the rocks soaking glove and subsequently cell phone in blood. My dog was very happy to give the glove a thorough licking at home.

Annoying overgrown slide alder on road NF-9023. Difficult navigating the upper portion of Hall Creek Trail in the snow. Tripped on my snowshoes and fell into Hall Creek at the very last step up onto the side. Long slog down, felt like endless ups and downs. Took my boots off at my truck and they weighed a ton after soaking the water up like a sponge.

I doubt my reports could challenge War and Peace, but I use Word first now after a few losses. Will come back to see if you decide to give us the whole play by play.

Thanks for the all the comments! I like to make them for a journal of sorts that I can look back on. I have some really cool trips I didn't make reports for and always regret it.
