After a dentist appointment on Mercer Island, I decided to stretch my legs at Pioneer Park, where I had not been since probably junior high school. This large chunk of forest is divided into three quadrants, and I walked through part of all three. Parked at the south end shopping center and walked across the street (68th) to the first section (NW quadrant), which is the most public and well used. Took the Alder, Woodpecker, Salmonberry, Perimeter trails from one end to the other. Lots of trillium. Crossed Island Crest Way to the second area (NE quadrant)--this area is the "wilder" section, and I hear deer are often seen here. Beautiful forest. Took Overlook, Ravine, Bridge, Creek trails to where it meets E Mercer Way. Turned around and came back up to Island Crest Way and walked south to the last section (SE quadrant, AKA equestrian quadrant). Did a quick loop on the Fir trail, and back onto 68th. Outing was 11-12. Sunny weather. No wildlife. 2.2 miles.
