Trip Report

Green Lake, Ranger Falls — Friday, Sep. 22, 2006

Ranger Falls along the trail to Green Lake.
After getting home at midnight Friday from the Elton John concert in Seattle and sleeping in Saturday morning, we opted for a shorter hike. The Green Lake hike off the Carbon River Road fit the bill, as neither of us had been up to it. We arrived at the trailhead about noon with only 3 other vehicles in the parking area. Lots of large Doug Firs in the old growth forest and some blown down in the past that the trail goes under. After one mile there is a short spur trail over to the 125 foot Ranger Falls which splits into two waterfalls about halfway down the rock face. From the falls it is just under a mile up to the lake after crossing a log bridge over the outlet creek. We found a spot along the lake's fisherman's trail for lunch on this sunny day with the vinemaples turning red and orange. No bugs on the hike except for the draggonflies and waterbugs at the clear green lake. Only saw a few other hikers and a group of Boy Scouts.
