The Mrs and I made it to the trailhead arround 11am. Parking found not too far from the trailhead. We started out and began our way up to Dock Butte. The initial part of the hike is shared with Blue Lake but the point were you part ways is well marked and we went to the right for Dock Butte. The trail in most places is in descent shape but there are a few places that water has shown how quickly it can erode and create some deep gullies. Just be careful, some of the areas that have exposed clay, can be pretty slippery. We were always in the presence of flies and other annoying little flying bugs but they didn't get hungry until our return. We made it to the top and the view was enormous, powerful, and just more than I could have imagined. 360 degrees of pure awesomeness.. we would have stayed longer but the annoying flying things were pushing us to leave. Coming back down we missed the trail that takes the nicer easier path down and instead got on the drainage which is much steeper and not a lot of fun. This was a great hike for a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Trail is in good shape with one downed tree across toward the beginning. Several small patches of snow, I was comfortable crossing and suspect they will be gone within a week or so. Only passed three other party's on this weekday. I enjoyed this short hike with lots of views, and look forward to possibly doing again this fall.

The trail is in good shape with only a few downed trees. For most of the trail, snowfields sparse are manageable. Where the trail splits near the top, take the direct ascent on the left. Going to the right, the snowfields are difficult and dangerous. One of the last snowfields is on a steep incline. Members of my party fell and slid despite using poles and snow baskets.

We did this great hike today. Had the trail almost entirely to ourselves (arrived at TH at 9:10am). The trail is wet in spots with running water from snow melt. It is steep and we took a short snack break and at a conveniently placed log. Wonderful views when the clouds parted. Not sure we made it quite to the top - there is snow on most of the trail for last .25 miles (approx.) and we followed foot prints to the field with the jagged rocks and had lunch there. Stunning views to accompany lunch. Hiked over to Blue Lake on the way down and encountered many groups on that trail. Bugs were quite annoying the entire hike. All and all we really enjoyed this hike.

This hike is extremely beautiful, and the drive up teases you with glimpses of what you will get at the end. (Follow signs for Blue Lake from Baker Lake Road; you won't see a single sign for Dock Butte until you are on the trail, but don't worry, you are on the right track). There is snow up at the top, I would definitely wear hiking boots. This trail is classified as easy but I wouldn't really agree with that and I'm in good shape. Blue Lake is also very pretty! It's a much easier trail and very short. This spot is a great destination!
