Road is fine for all vehicles and free of snow. There are a few branches down (pushed to the sides) and minor potholes, but nothing troublesome. There’s no privy at this trailhead, so you might want to stop at the trail signed “Ranger Hole” just before the Duckabush road turns to gravel. There’s a nice privy there, even stocked with TP and Purell. I also posted a TR for Ranger Hole trail today. The short trail to Murhut Falls is in excellent shape. The trail fairies must have been out to clear the log reported last time (was it you, wonderful Mt. Rose Trail Crew?). We had the trail to ourselves on a cold (high 20s), sunny Tuesday. The log at the bottom of the falls is lined with icicles underneath that sparkle when the sun reflects off the water. I posted some pics (including 2 nearby trails) at the link below.

The Murhut Falls trail is a great trail to take visitors that want to see a very scenic waterfall and want to take a short hike to get there. The trail has about a 10-15% grade for about a 1/2 mile or so and then starts trending downwards to the Falls. The Falls are tucked in a beautiful corner of the valley and are well, well worth the drive and hike! There are also some good mountain views at the upper end of the trail. There was 1 downed tree towards the upper end of the trail about 8 inches in diameter but easy to walk under.

My hiking buddy only had a half day for hiking so we opted for Murhut Falls. (You'll find the link to a short 2 minute video of the trail highlights below..) Spectacular right now, with all the recent rainfall! Lots of mushrooms along the first half mile. Enjoyed the steep scramble off the end of the trail down to the lower pool. I suggest we turn that into official switchbacks to avoid erosion when Charlie gets back next Spring, as one of her trail crew assignments!

This trailhead was very typical of mountain trailheads around here, i.e. a pull-off on the side of the road. There was one other car there when we got there, which was right in line with what the guide book said about this being an infrequently visited spot. This was a very easy trail, with the pay-off coming in less than a mile. The reward for this easy stroll was a really beautiful, two part waterfall, surrounded by dense trees. I have to agree with the book and say that I have a hard time understanding why more people don't visit this spot. It wasn't at all hard to drive to the hike was short and easy, and Murhut Falls is gorgeous!

Brought along some family friends, so we had two sets of parents plus kids ages 9, 6, 6, and 3. Great condition for a Forest Service road to the trailhead, and a super short hike along a well-maintained trail for a big payoff! Had a picnic at the bench above the falls, then scrambled down to climb around on rocks & logs and play in the pools. The dads went up to check out the cool cave at the upper pool, and the root wall leading up there would also be a fun climb for older kids. Look out for rocks slippery with slime at the upper pool as you cross to the cave, though.
