Reached the park entrance at 1pm. The dirt road from the main road was in great condition. A park ranger directed us to the upper parking lot, as the lower parking lot was full. Had lunch at the picnic area, and followed some of the short social trails along the edge of the canyon. Lots of people everywhere (including quite a few who appeared to be competing for a Darwin Award)...

Beware of: trail conditions

I tent camped here for one night. The trails in the area are all "travel at your own risk". I did not venture down to the bottom of the falls but was able to venture quite a ways down river away from the falls. There are also some safe short trails to the left of the falls which give you a different viewpoint. There are also many marmots living in the cliffs. If you do stay the night here, the stars are awesome!

I visited Palouse falls yesterday with my friend and her daughter. It was a steamy 78 degrees. The trail appeared to be in good caution. Lots of people down in the canyon and around the falls. We decided to stay back with the amount of people we encountered, a few more people added to the very skinny goat trails seemed unnecessary. The parking lot was full I'm sure face book groups like WH&C have a lot to do with the popularity I just hope they can keep it from looking like a trash dump.. So far so good. Bring lots of water and wear sunscreen. Not much shade on a sunny day. Glad to mark this one off the to do list. It's so far away from everything.

  • Hiked with a dog

My fiance and I hike a lot and were very excited to finally visit the falls. We hiked all the way down into the canyon to swim and I doubt she'll ever want to do it again. It makes sense why the State park doesn't encourage people to use these trails; they are very slick and very dangerous. We also had our german shepherd and it was almost impossible to hike back out of the trail. Was it worth the views? Yes. But use extreme caution if you decide to hike down.
