An easy hike as an out and back, a cross-mountain link with the Red Town and Quarry Trails, or a loop with the intermediate N. Gombu Cliff trail. A small amount of flow in the Coal Creek Falls and creeks, but pretty nevertheless.

This was a great little day hike to kickstart the hiking season. The trail is in great condition, parking is free and easy to find, and the forest was beautiful and lush (mushrooms everywhere!). We reached the "summit" in no time, but if you're looking for a view, prepare to be disappointed. The most exciting thing about the summit was a dog water dish at the top (we forgot ours), so that tells you how uninspiring it is. ;) It was a little buggy, but not to the point of needing bug spray. We passed a lot of other hikers who also had dogs with them - we appreciated that they were all leashed! :)

Great trail and well signed. Lovely bench at the peak!

Great morning for a hike. We left the Anti-Aircraft parking area around 9am and headed for Wilderness Peak. Lots of runners on the trail that early, with more hikers as the day went on. There were a lot fewer folks on the rougher trails leading to Wilderness and Longview Peaks. The cool morning was the perfect time to be out - we were back at the car by 2pm, after hitting both Wilderness and Longview Peaks, stopping of some snacks and water, and taking in the park.

First off, the coordinates listed do not bring you to the trail head! Google Maps brought us to someone's front yard, on the other side of the park. You actually want to be down the road a bit, looking for a blue sign for the Jim Whittaker Wilderness Creek (not a typo) trailhead. Anyway, the hike was gorgeous! I definitely enjoyed the half/three quarters of Wilderness Peak the best. That had all the rivers and a very forresty feel. Now this is only my fourth or fifth hike basically ever, and it was not easy. The grade is steep and we took many breaks. The peak is VERY disappointing! There are no views, just a bench and a log book (which was actually kind of cool). So needless to say we went down the Gombu trail since there was supposedly a lookout point along that trail. There was a point, but it was slightly disappointing as well. Very clean port-o-potty at the trailhead and free parking. Great day for a hike. Can't really complain.
