Peabody Creek Loop Trail
From the parking lot, you will immediately descend through the green forest. As you stroll down, you'll instantly hear the creek, with sightings of it about 1/4 mile in. The trail will lead you across the bridge, and under a large tree. To the left will be a spur trail, that will continue up the creek. Veer to your right.
Follow along the trail some more, and again go to the right. Another bridge will come, giving you plenty of chances to stop and peer into the creek. Up the stairs, the trail continues up the hill, and to the parking lot.
Driving Directions:
From Port Angeles leave US 101 near milepost 249, following Race Street south 1.2 miles. The Olympic National Park Visitors Center and Wilderness Information Center will be on your right. Recent Trip Reports

This trail doesn't get much attention from hikers. It starts at the Olympic National Park Visitor center and is only a half mile loop.
The creek was high, highest I've seen it at least. It was kind of muddy in spots, and there was some storm damage to certain areas of the trial. There was a section of a lookout that was broke. But it is all passable and it looks like the park service will be fixing it soon. It's definately a great short trail for someone who doesn't have much time, but wants to get out in the woods. There's also a spur trail from the loop trail, following Peabody creek for 2.7 miles. Sadly, the park system doesn't offer much info about these trails (nor are they listed on WTA). Will definately have to go back and check out the longer trail. |
