My buddy's and I hiked up to marmot pass and spent the night on the ridge. We started hiking around 11 am. It was very hot and dry on the way up but sunny and beautiful. Never have seen it that dry in marmot pass. This was my fifth time up to the pass. About 5000 feet we hit some snow patches but nothing major. We set up camp on the ridge at a spot we always wanted to camp at but was always taken. It was a super clear night with no moon. So it was perfect for taking star photos. The next morning we packed up and headed back. I love this hike. It has to be one of my favorite in WA.

I think this is my favorite shot. I took a 30" exposure and at about 10 seconds into the shot I illuminated the foreground with my headlamp. Harsha and David where sleeping at the time. With ten seconds to go I moved in front of the camera and looked up at the stars to burn my body into the frame. It worked! I was super happy. Photo by Coleman Smith

camera

I use a Nikon D7000. I also use Adobe Lightroom 5 for photo editing.

There was a little bit of snow below the ridge. No snow on Buckhorn. :)
