Thunder Creek — Saturday, May. 16, 2015

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20
We spent Friday night camping at Colonial Creek Campground so it was an easy thing to get up and hit the trail. What a treat not having to drive even a short distance to a trailhead! There were a couple larger groups gearing up for an overnight but we were able to hit the trail and gain some distance, moving quickly with our light day-hiking packs. The trail was perfect for an easy longer mileage day. We briefly contemplated breaking off and doing 4th of July Pass but pressed on along Thunder Creek. It was really great hearing the sound of the roaring creek in the distance and slowly gaining elevation. We made McAllister Camp in perfect time for lunch and enjoyed a relaxing break beside the Creek. Views were a bit better on the way back as the clouds had lifted. We stopped to soak our feet at the bridge crossing before finishing the last mile and a bit back to camp. A perfect hike for a hot summery day!
