We had a team with 10 people hiked this trail yesterday. Our goal was sourdough mountain summit. We started with summer trail from trail head (saw a 3-people group started at the same time), which is about 1.6 mile long , a steep and strenuous section; then we arrived to the start point of the Gully top section. It covered with snow from there. We put spikes on and headed to the ridge on our left hand side, continued about 1.3 miles on the ridge. Our last push to the summit was about a mile. It was very warm (or you can say it was hot) and sunny yesterday the snow was pretty wet, which made the travel require a little bit more efforts. Some of our team members carried snowshoes but we didn't use them.
We left parking lot around 9:30 in the morning returned around 7:30 pm before sunset. It took us about 10 hours for the hiking, moving time is 7 hours.
We broke and managed our trip to 3 sections:
#1 Summer Trail: 1.58 mi (890’-3835’, 2955 gain) most of them 30-40 degree slope
#2 To Gully Top: 1.29 mi (3792’ – 5651’, 1952 gain) most of them 30 degree slope
#3 Summit: 1 mi (5642’ – 6136’, 683 gain) most of them flat
By the way one of our team member has lost his cell (Huawei 5X) on the summit, if you find it please contact maple.ys@gmail.com or call 425-705-9891, Thanks!
