This crew will spend 6 days repairing trails in the dramatic high country above Lake Chelan. Lake Chelan was hit hard by the 2024 Pioneer Fire, which left singed trees and destabilized the steep slopes. This crew will continue work to clear and repair the Prince Creek trail, venturing farther than the WTA crew that started this work in May. They will spend a few days at the lower backcountry camp (4.5 miles up the hill) then push up to a higher backcountry camp (8 miles up) past the burn area. A forest service boat will transport the crew from 25 Mile Guard Station to Prince Creek, and they will hike to camp from there.
The goal is to cover many miles and do a combination of logout and tread repair to clear from Lake Chelan all the way to the Chelan-Sawtooth ridge. This trip is strenuous because the crew will climb close to 4500 feet in elevation to complete their work. You must be comfortable traveling on steep slopes with high exposure.
