Aiston Preserve is located on the southeast of Lummi Mountain, and features two trailheads that offer access to the 105 acres of the property. Formerly used for mining, now the entire area is preserved for recreation and rehabilitating the natural environment.
Hikers here will encounter deep forests full of moss, native plants and wildlife, as well as thousands of feet of rocky shoreline. The beaches feature eelgrass beds as well as sensitive tideland habitats.
The entirety of the preserve is made of fragile, recovering environments. Please stay on the trails here, and note that bikes or motorized vehicles are not allowed. Foraging, camping and hunting are also not permitted.
A short trail, called Inati is just 1.5 miles long, descending from the Reflection woods section of the presrve. It is possible to follow a spur north of the Inati trails to Deer Fern Way, making for a 1.2 mile hike ending at the second parking area on Beach Avenue.
