Enjoy a hike or glimpse some native species of bird along the Washougal Dike.
From the Captain William Clark Park trailhead, head over the dike to Cottonwood Beach. The boundary of Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge lies at the east end of the beach.
Head east, stopping to look for bald eagles, ducks, great blue herons, western meadowlarks, northern flickers and other birds. A basalt bench overlooking the Gibbons Creek fish ladder makes for a nice resting spot for a snack, and don't forget to see the dugout canoes near the parking area.
