If you're looking to stretch your legs in the town of Index, or walk off a delightful lunch at the Bush House Inn, this trail is a good option.
Entirely level except for going onto and off the trail at a slight incline, this trail goes through the forest from the town of Index to an unofficial city park on the shores of the North Fork of the Skykomish River.
Parking is very limited — there are three parking spots at the west end of the trail and several more across the street from the trail at the unofficial riverside park.
This description starts at the west end of the trail and walks to the Bush House Inn in Index, but you can also start in town and go the other way.
You'll walk 0.7 miles through the forest and come out at the railroad tracks. There is a level crossing on the road to go over the railroad tracks. In less than one block, arrive at the school and the Bush House Inn.
This trail also continues as the Index Town Wall trail on the west side.
