From the relatively flat Kautz Creek Trail, head into Indian Henry's Hunting Ground. At the junction with the Wonderland Trail, turn south (onto the Wonderland) and hike for about a quarter or a mile and then head cross country to the northeast. Hike through open forest and huckleberry bushes
Iron Mountain can be reached by following the ridge or sidehilling just to the right of it. A small trail marks the best way up, featuring some moderately steep grass, a few scrub trees, nothing more challenging than class 2 to the plateau summit area.
