The Kalama Ski Trail is a ski route near Mount St. Helens that connects the Cougar Sno-Park with the Kalama Horse Camp. Visitors should expect to share the area with snowmobilers on weekends, though it is often very quiet on weekdays.
The route begins in the Cougar Sno-Park, climbing steeply via several switchbacks almost immediately. If the snow is packed and slippery, it is possible to ski the first part of this route on Road 81 from the Sno-Park. Several access points connect back to the Kalama Ski Trail, so you have a few options to loop back to the trail once you cover the steepest sections on the road.
Once on the route it's skier's choice as to how far you want to go. The trail at its full length is more than 7 miles one way (so more than 14 round trip). The views are gorgeous, and include Mount St Helens and Mount Adams. Ski as far as you this adventure is best for a clear day.
