Excellent groomed Nordic Trails in winter convert to a nice double track trail for summer use. The trails are Nordic-only in winter (no snowshoeing allowed), but multi-use in summer (hike, bike, & equestrian). Continue reading

Hiking Mount Spokane State Park - Nordic Trails

The full Nordic trail system at Mount Spokane is somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 miles, although some of the trails are winter-use only without a permit. This pertains to trails that cross into adjacent Inland Empire Paper Company land, which has its own summer access permit system.

For trails that are located within Mount Spokane State Park, summer users can still find nice, long routes by using the linked trail system. Junctions one through five are all within park boundaries, and by using the branched trails from each junction, it's possible to create long loops (or short loops, for that matter).

Trails with the best summertime views include Eagle Crest, Quartz Mountain, and Shadow Mountain. Trails with the best summertime huckleberries are secret, but go explore it!

Quartz Mountain is home to a rentable fire lookout that originally stood on the summit of Mount Spokane. It is hike-in only; see http://www.parks.wa.gov/423/Mount-Spokane-State-Park for reservation information.

In winter, the trails are groomed for both track and skate Nordic skiing, and select trails are open to skijoring on Wednesdays (all day) and Sundays (after noon).
