Hiking Noisy Creek

This trail is accessed via the Baker River and then the Baker Lake trails. The junction is not marked and the trail is infrequently-used.

Start out by following the east side of Noisy Creek. You'll walk among ancient evergreens that provide habitat for native bird, fish and other species. Look out for Northern Spotted owls and marbeled murrelets in this lush forest.

Enjoy this ramble for a mile to the creek shore, where you can fish, if you like! Past this trail is the beginning of a cross-country route into the Noisy-Diobsud Wilderness and North Cascades National Park, but the 5.5 mile walk from the trailhead is a lovely forest ramble, too.

Getting There

The trail begins at the mouth of Noisy Creek 10 miles up Baker Lake on the lake's eastern shore. There are two ways to gain access to the trail.

From the Mount Baker Ranger District office in Sedro-Woolley, drive 16 miles east on Highway 20 to milepost 82. Turn left (north) on the Baker Lake Highway (Forest Service Road 11). Continue for 25 miles to the road's end.

Turn left on Forest Service road 1168, which ends a half-mile at the trailhead for the Baker River Trail 606. Walk the Baker River Trail for half-mile until reaching a junction and a bridge over the Baker River. Turn right to follow Baker Lake Trail and cross the river.

The Noisy Creek Trail is 4.5 miles south of the Baker River on the left side. The trail junction may not be clearly marked. Signs of the existing trail can be found on the eastern side of Noisy Creek.

Alternately, you can cross Baker Lake in a water craft from a boat launch at one of the Forest Service campgrounds on the lake's opposite shore (Shannon Creek Campground, located 24 miles up the Baker Lake Highway (Forest Service Road 11), is nearest to the trail or from the Baker Lake Trail 610.
