Garry Oak habitat used to be widespread in the south sound region. These ecosystems were protected and managed by Native Americans for thousands of years to stop evergreen forests from taking over these open areas. Now only a few examples remain.
This park is one of those remnants. It is also a pilot project for the Green Tacoma Partnership who is working on restoring this area, and it is a prime candidate because of the ecosystem represented here.
Visitors can check it out via one of three trails, or they can link them together to form a longer loop.
