Follow this wide path as it winds through tall, ivy-covered Douglas firs.  Although it’s in the middle of the city, this trail around a developing park provides a great way to enjoy the outdoors.

Raymond E Shaffer park was made possible by the efforts of community members who wanted a park in their neighborhood. Starting in 2017, WTA partnered with the City of Vancouver to begin constructing an accessible trail that loops around the 10-acre park. The trail was completed at the beginning of 2018 and can be enjoyed by hikers of all skill levels.

You can start this loop at multiple points, depending on where you park. This loop is a pleasant walk no matter what, so pick a direction and start hiking. Circle the park, enjoying the sights and smells of the impressive trees around you and the sounds of birds and tree frogs.

WTA Pro Tip: The meadow in the middle of the park makes a great spot for a picnic or a post-hike game of catch.

Getting There

Because it is still in development, Raymond E Shaffer park does not yet have a designated parking area, so you will need to street park in the surrounding neighborhood. It’s easy to park at the north end of the park on NE 78th Ave, though it’s also possible to park south of the park on NE 58th St and west near the intersection of NE 76th Ave and NE 60th St.

From the intersection of NE Andresen Rd and NE 63rd St, head east on 63rd St past the Vancouver Fire Department Headquarters. After .4 miles, turn right on NE 78th St into a neighborhood. Follow this road until it dead ends at an entrance to the park. Follow a short dirt track into the park until it meets the main trail.
