Rhododendron Park

Rhododendron Park is a 32-acre, largely forested, mixed-use Island County park in central Whidbey Island. Facilities include a picnic area, children's play area, three groomed baseball fields, restroom facilities, 15 basic camp sites and about 3 miles of forested trails. 

The park also makes a convenient access point to the southern end of the Rhododendron Trail, a separate mixed-use trail that parallels Highway 20 north through Coupeville and beyond. One quick warning - the park is close to the Naval Air Station Whidbey secondary OLF field which when in use can be thunderously noisy so having a back up walk in mind if the jets are flying is a good idea. 

The park is closed November 1st to April 1st annually.

The trail system consists of a central paved north/south trail, "Rhodie Road", and a series of dirt trails that make a rough exterior loop which can sometimes be a bit hard to follow as signage is limited. Forest cover is typical second generation, largely evergreen trees.

The main draw, as the park name suggests, is the brilliant show of blooming native rhododendrons in late spring. The Washington State flower is the Pacific Rhododendron and the park delivers with thousands of individual plants with hundreds of thousands of blooms in this relatively small area.
