The trail begins at the west end of the campground, where there is a registration box for long-distance hikers tackling the Kettle Crest Trail.
Gradually descend, popping in and out of trees and over a few footbridges. At about half a mile you’ll intersect the Sherman Pass Trail #82. Turn left till you come to another fork, then bear right.
This spur takes you to the Kettle Crest Trailhead, with wide-open vistas of the surrounding peaks.
WTA Pro Tip: Refill on water at the Sherman Pass campground.
