Visit a short but interesting trail with interpretive signs explaining studies on tree spacing during replantation.

The 0.2 mile Spacing Study Trail is well defined and easy to follow. Note that while it's a short trail, it is not a loop. However, it's still less than half a mile to do the entire hike, and it's an interesting concept for hikers to immerse themselves in as they hike along. The signs detail spacing studies performed in 1925 (8 ft x 8 ft, 10 ft x 10 ft, and so on), as well as several other studies conducted over the years.

After windstorms or before trail maintenance crews come in, expect to see blowdowns across the trail, making this short hike an obstacle course, perhaps best skipped by those with strollers or wheelchairs. If you're looking for more hikes after completing this one, just south on the road is the 0.1 mile Ponderosa Trail, and further afield is the Falls Creek Trail. Falls Creek makes for a wonderful diversion, with miles of trail to explore along a bubbling creek, or a 6-mile roundtrip hike to a crashing waterfall.
