Hiking Steam Hoist

The Steam Hoist Trail is a short loop trail within the Cougar Mountain trail network. One end of this trail connects to the Rainbow Town trail and the other connects to the Wildside Trail.

Start at the Red Town Trailhead, heading straight on the Wildside Trail. At the first junction head right and cross over Coal Creek. Stay straight at the next junction, then take a left at the next junction for the official start of the Steam Hoist Trail.

Over the next 0.2 mile, this trail loops around, crossing back over Coal Creek before ending at the Rainbow Town Trail.

Getting There

Take Exit 13 and drive south on Lakemont Blvd SE for 3.1 miles. Look for the entrance to the Red Town Trailhead on the left side of the road just before the road bends sharply to the right.
