Hiking Stevens Pass Nordic Center

Five miles east of the Stevens Pass Ski Area, the Stevens Pass Nordic Center trails offer a quiet place to snowshoe among quiet giants of the forest. Share the area with cross-country and skate skiers, who schuss past on groomed trails, while dedicated snowshoe routes criss-cross the area and offer a wide variety of outing.

There are 4 established snowshoe routes to explore, including the short Hobo Hop, just 0.75km long, which departs from the Clickity Clack trail a mere hundred feet or so from Cascade Depot.

A longer trail also leaves from Cascade Depot, on the west side of the center: Steppin' Stoker. This 3.5km loop runs along Mill Creek for half of the loop, then abuts the long, groomed Guthrie Loop on its way back to Cascade Depot.

For a full day of snowshoeing, start on the Clickity Clack trail and look for the junction with Hobo Hop. Hop onto this route, and continue to the other end, where it meets up with Clickity Clack again. Follow Clickity-Clack as it crosses Mill Creek and then look for the junction with Coal Burner.

Coal Burner follows Mill Creek to the biathlon range, which is the furthest you can get into the Nordic Center on snowshoe only trails. The trail loops back on itself, crossing Mill Creek and heading down to a bench, where you can sit and enjoy the babbling creek.

Finish the Coal Burner Loop, turning left at the junction, and then arrive at a junction with Clickity Clack. At this point, you've done 3.50km. Go straight on Clickity-Clack and then at the junction with Steppin' Stoker, bear left. This last leg of your outing follows Mill Creek, before turning back uphill to finish at the Cascade Depot. All told, its about 4.25km, and gives you a tour of the whole snowshoe area.

WTA Pro Tip: Share the trail! Snowshoers should travel on designated snowshoe trails only, and if it is necessary to cross a groomed trail, avoid stepping in the ski tracks.
