This popular summer trail, with 25 different interpretive stops, offers a wonderful place to learn about woodland ecosystems. Just under 3 miles of trails through woods and meadows near the summit of Blewett Pass, and five log benches throughout, provide hikers with fascinating views. It also gives insight into an area recovering after a burn towards the end of the trail.
A multitude of flowers greet hikers in the springtime, and — on clear days — Mount Rainier, Mount Stuart and the peaks of the Enchantments decorate the panorama as you hike this relatively flat, educational trail, just 32 miles outside of Ellensburg or 25 miles from Cle Elum. This is a great family-friendly afternoon trip for ages 5 and older.

Getting There
Heading west on Hwy 2, turn south onto Hwy 97 and proceed approximately 21 miles toward Blewett Pass, and turn left at the sign "Forest Discovery Trail."
Heading east from Ellensburg or Cle Elum on Highway 97, follow Highway 97 approximately 14 miles toward Blewett Pass and turn right at the sign "Forest Discovery Trail."
From either case above, follow NF-9716 uphill approximately a half-mile to the Swauk Forest Discovery Trail parking area. The trailhead is to the right of the toilet facilities and information signs.
