Reachable only by boat, Turn Island is a small island off the east side of San Juan Island, near Friday Harbor. This loop trail offers visitors the opportunity to hike the perimeter of the island.
The trail is a mild roller coaster of elevation gain and loss, with plenty of greenery and views of the water. Washington State Parks suggests taking the loop counterclockwise.
Camping at one of the 12 primitive sites at Turn Island Campground is first-come, first-served all year. Be sure to check camping fees before heading out. Pets and fires are not allowed on the island. There is a composting toilet but no potable water. And have a food storage plan as raccoons and deer live on the island.
