Hiking Wahkeena Falls

A 2.8 mile trail in the Columbia River Gorge. The Wahkeena Trail can be connected with the Larch Mountain trail and the Return Trail to create a 6 mile loop, but it connects with many other trails in the area to create many other routes longer loops or traverses.

Wahkeena Falls is right at the bottom of the Wahkeena Trail, so if you're hoping to see that, it's quite easy. Simply hike up the paved switchbacks to a viewpoint of the falls at a bridge, just about 0.3 miles.

However, if you keep going past the falls, the trail switchbacks up the hill to a nice viewpoint (Lemmons Viewpoint). Then it heads inland to another waterfall, Fairy Falls. Past this, the trail connects to either the Vista Point trail or the Devils Rest Trail. If you stay on the Wahkeena trail, you'll arrive at a saddle where it reconnects with the Vista Point trail, and then traverses across the ridge and downhill to meet up with the Larch Mountain Trail, where hikers can either continue up to the summit of Larch Mountain or downhill along Multnomah Creek to the base of Multnomah Falls.
