WTA is a nonprofit that needs you

We’re just as excited as you to get the summer hiking season started. We're psyched our website and work for trails help you get outside.

But we're a nonprofit run on donations from regular people. If everyone who visited this website this holiday weekend donated $9/month, it would fully fund our work for the next 2 years. Of course, time spent outdoors is priceless, but every donation large or small helps us support those experiences for everyone.

Please take 2 minutes to chip in $9.

Northwest Forest Pass
This peak is easy to see from the hairpin turn on the North Cascades Highway. As you travel east on Highway 20, just after the Washington Pass crest, the road makes a hairpin turn left before descending to Winthrop.

Park your car here for access to this scramble. There is a bootpath or trail that threads its way up some 1,500 feet before reaching Kangaroo Pass at 6671 feet. On the lower portion, cairns aid hikers, bringing you us to snowpack around 5,800 feet.

At the pass, ascend the southwest ridge, weaving your way between the northern and southern edges. At about 7,400 feet, swing around to the southern flank for a final ascent up a south-facing gully.

Careful on your return, descend the gully and work your way around to reconnect with Kangaroo Pass.
