Quite a workout! Bring two quarts of water per person, minimum. Some amazing views on the way. We essentially hiked into the clouds, which limited visibility to 100 yards and kept us very cool. Three people on the trail other than us.

Does it require a northwest forest pass? The hiking guide for slab creek says pass free, but deer ridge and slab creek share the same trailhead. What do you think?

The trailhead is in the national forest. I’d get a pass.
