Trip Report

Perry Creek — Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
On the way to Forgotten Meadows

Who hiked the trail:
Four 12-13 year old kids with their parents, and myself, a girl in her 20s

Parking:
- arrived at 9am; ~4 cars on Perry Creek side; ~8 cars on the Mt. Dickerman side
- left around 6pm: Only a couple cars in addition to our cars

Visitors:
We saw about 15 other hikers and trail runners. Most people were very good about wearing masks, so that was awesome to see!

Trail condition:
The trail trail begins in very good condition. About halfway to the waterfall, snow and some ice begin covering the trail. Past the waterfall, the river is crossable, but in the morning the rocks were icy making trekking poles very necessary. Shortly after the water crossing, the trail was completely covered in snow with sections of ice. Once you leave the forest, the trail becomes more of a boot path. If you've never hiked this trail, the boot path is relatively easy to follow, but can be a little confusing, so make sure you have a map or someone who knows the trail really well.

Other notes:
We didn't have microspikes, but on the descent we agreed that they would've been nice so we weren't sliding on the trail as much. But doable without microspikes.

Comments

I'm impressed you made it up without spikes. I had to give up at the creek crossing.
