Burroughs Mountain — Thursday, Jul. 15, 2021

Mount Rainier Area > NE - Sunrise/White River
View from the Third Burroughs

We made it to the third Burroughs on this beautiful Thursday. We left Seattle at 6:00 a.m. and was on the trail by 8:15. Worth the early arrival if you can because we beat the crowds.

A fairly easy, beautiful trek all-around. About four miles in, at the climb for the third Burroughs, there’s a small snow patch about 50 yards wide that’s no trouble to navigate (we had no poles or spikes).

It took us 3 hours, 40 minutes roundtrip. The mosquitoes were horrible about a mile in but weren’t bad otherwise.

If this is your first time here, bring a jacket to break the wind - even in the summer. The wildflowers were out and we saw 5 marmots, a herd of mountain goats and several chipmunks.

Make it to the third Burroughs if you can. It’s worth seeing Rainier’s details because you’re so close to the mountain. But getting to the second provides a beautiful view in itself.

The trail is wide and dusty. The parking lot and trail were packed by the time we got back around noon.

Small (~50 yard snowfield) is easy to cross at third Burroughs
Wildflowers surround you from the start of the trail
