Excelsior Pass via Nooksack River, Welcome Pass & High Divide Trail — Saturday, Jul. 17, 2021

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area

Went out from Excelsior, travelled across the divide just past Welcome Pass. Beautiful day despite some clouds, but if you just think of it as adding to the ambience then you don't even mind!

Thought I would update about water sources:
The best not far too from the start of the Excelsior via Nooksack side is with the waterfall while you're still in the forest. Perhaps about 2-2.5 miles in? Can't miss it though there are a few false alarms where you hear the water but have a couple of switchbacks left before you'll find access. (See picture)

There are a couple of very small trickles once you reach the meadows below Excelsior. However, they are not great for water collection by any means, especially earlier in the day. I would NOT count on these as a water source.

There is a small snow field accessible from the Excelsior peak but I wouldn't guarantee it for the rest of the season by any means.

Once you travel across the divide the meadows around Welcome Pass (before the pass if heading from Excelsior) have the usual running creek and tarns area. Still low in comparison to other years though easy to filter water from, especially the smaller one towards Excelsior (over the larger toward Welcome Pass which is harder to access).

Lastly, I did lose a light blue sun shirt out there if anyone happens upon it. Likely near one of these spots... I suppose my loss is your gain. Thanks to whoever (hopefully) grabs it.
