K.J., Double D., and Jimbo joined me for this gorgeous hike to Little Giant Pass. There's been several reports written recently so I'll only add a little to them. The Chiwawa River Road is terrible for sedans, but doable. High clearance vehicles will fare better. I was surprised at how many folks were on the trail today since this used to be less visited than other trails in the area, but it's difficult to avoid the crowds these days. The ford at the beginning is manageable, but at 5'3" it was definately over my knees. The current is there, but mild so no problem as long as you keep your footing. A hiker in front of us slipped and fell which resulted in getting soaked, but otherwise fine. The fall colors are amazing, but if you're looking for larch you might want to go elsewhere. There were only a few on this hike and all in the distance. Otherwise, the huckleberry, mountain ash and other foliage was gorgeous, but fading fast. This trail is crazy steep in sections, but moderate in others. Even so, be prepared for 4000' - 4500' of elevation gain (guidebooks vary). The trail is in fine condition though which eases the pain a little. There are a few rocky and muddy places, but I'd consider this one of the better maintained trails I've done this year.
