Upper Lena Lake — Monday, Jul. 22, 2024

Mount Bretherton looming over Upper Lena Lake

My buddy and I camped for two nights (Monday and Tuesday) at Upper Lena Lake and really enjoyed it despite the relentlessly steep trail and large amount of bugs. The trail itself isn’t in too bad of shape for the little amount of use it gets, but here are quite a few large trees to duck under along the way. On the bright side, there are a TON of ripe salmonberries on the trail about a mile and a half from Upper Lena Lake that we filled up on our way there and on our way out. We only saw one other camp at Upper Lena Lake on Monday night and we were likely the only ones there on Tuesday night.  The mosquitoes were out in abundance, but they were (somewhat) bearable as we had bug spray and kept moving around most of the time. We hiked to Milk Lake on Tuesday and thought it was a “must do” if you have the time. Highly recommend this place if you have the wherewithal to conquer the trail!
