Swauk Forest Discovery Trail — Saturday, Sep. 28, 2024

Central Cascades > Blewett Pass
Swauk Forest Discovery Trail by J-Wally

Perfect day for an easy hike with huge views.

Trailhead is up a road that is a bit bumpy but passive for most cars unless it’s a lowered car with no clearance. Parking lot had plenty of spots open at noon on a Saturday. A Northwest Forest Pass is required for parking, but the sign is hidden by trees. There was a toilet that was fairly dirty and no toilet paper. There was no smoke today, just a little hazy in the distance.

We did the trail going counter clockwise. The leaves are just starting to change. Mostly the bushes so far. The trail was perfect until the way up to the big look out , a bit before the Number 19 marker, I believe. There is a small blow down that was too short to crawl under but too high to climb over. It’s a thin tree so we were able to hold it back while we passed. The number 21 marker offered outstanding views of the Stuarts, Rainier and even the North Cascades! It was a great 3.1 mile loop right off of the highway.
